LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team defeated Idaho 3-2 Thursday night in an exciting, down-to-the-wire match at Johann Field.
The Vandals dropped in the first goal just 19 seconds into the match. Sophomore Christine Anderson fired a rebound shot in over Rebel goalie Shannon Wilson. The match remained 1-0 throughout the rest of the first half. The Rebels dominated much of the half, shooting 16 shots to the Vandals six. However, they could get nothing past Idaho goalie Jenell Miller.
Moving on to the second half, Rebels forward Anita Pedford took a crossing shot from junior Suzanne Jensen for the game tying score in the 51st minute. UNLV continued to dominate much of the second half as it did in the first, out shooting the Vandals 27-9 for the match. The Rebels got their second goal off a corner kick taken by sophomore Cristyn Enea, to Jessica Chavez for the go-ahead goal.
Idaho rallied back to tie the game at two-a-piece with 14 minutes to play. However, at the 88:51 mark, Jensen scored the game winning goal off a free-kick from Enea to seal the victory for the Rebels.
The Rebels will be back in action Monday night at 7:00 against Bowling Green at Johann Field.
