Oct. 21, 2001

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Playing with a depleted traveling roster, the UNLV men's soccer team was handed a 5-0 shutout by Air Force in a battle of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's top teams Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Colo.

After red cards were assessed in a game against MPSF rival and former nationally ranked Denver on Friday afternoon, the Rebels would play three starters short in Sunday's matchup with the Falcons.

Air Force, now 11-2 overall and undefeated in MPSF play at 4-0, scored four goals in the first half and outshot the Rebels 23-10. The Falcons' Paul Gagliardi, Daniel Walsh, Thomas Clark and Britton Miller (2) claimed all of the goals in the shutout, to give the Rebels a second consecutive conference loss.

Air Force goalkeeper Mike Brophy earned the win with four saves and one assist, while junior goalkeeper Justin Dennis took the loss with two saves. The Rebels drop to 7-6 overall, 2-2 MPSF.

UNLV next travels to San Diego State on Friday, Oct. 26 for a conference match slated for 4 p.m. in San Diego, Calif. They will then host their final home game of the season and celebrate "Senior Day" on Sunday, Oct. 28 against Sacramento State at noon in Las Vegas.
