FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Senior midfielder Anita Pedford connected on a pass from sophomore defender Tania Lee in the 24th minute as the UNLV women's soccer team took their fourth consecutive shutout and victory at Northern Arizona, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Pedford scored her fifth goal of the season to tie junior Cristyn Enea as the team's current leading scorer with 11 points. She continues to climb the career leader charts, as she is second all-time in goals (15) and points (44).
With the win, the Rebels tied a four-game winning streak last captured in the 1999 season. Their shutout win against NAU marks a new all-time season record for shutouts with six to-date.
Responsible for four of those shutouts this season is senior goalkeeper Alice Gleason, who has held opponents scoreless in 300 consecutive minutes of play. She had four saves against the Lumberjacks and now holds the all-time season record for shutouts, formerly held by Shannon Wilson (2). Overall, the Rebels have not allowed a goal in 390 minutes, the longest streak in school history.
UNLV improves to 6-3-2, while NAU drops to 4-6-1. Mountain West Conference play is just on the horizon as the Rebels next host league rival Brigham Young in a conference opener on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
