Volleyball Falls To San Diego State In Five

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team fell to San Diego State 3-2 (29-31, 30-20, 27-30, 30-25, 11-15) on Friday night at the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels out-hit (.228 - .142) and out-blocked (30-17) the Aztecs despite the loss.

With the loss, UNLV drops to 8-11 overall, 5-7 in the Mountain West Conference. San Diego State improves to 14-9, 8-4 in league play.

Leiana Oswald and Michelle Johnson led the Rebels offensively with 17 kills each. Oswald added 12 digs for her second double-double of the season, while Johnson dropped eight blocks on the Aztecs.

Setter Nicki King served up 58 assists with ten digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

Sheila Ocasio-Clemente, who currently leads the nation in blocks per game, finished the match with 11 blocks (2 solo, 9 assisted). She also added seven kills.

Blair Wilkes finished with 14 kills and five blocks.

The Aztecs were led by the tandem of Katie Magnuson and Zlatina Anguelova who each finished with 17 kills.

UNLV hosts BYU and Utah next weekend to wrap up the regular season. The Rebels play BYU on Friday and Utah on Saturday with both matches scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
