Rebel Track Wins Four Events In Reno

RENO, Nev. - The UNLV track and field team won four events en route to a third-place team finish at the Bill Cosby Invitational. The Rebels amassed 74 team points to finish behind host UNR and Fresno State.

Michele Davis won two of those events, taking the 200 and 400 meters. She clocked 24.00 in the 200, her best time of the season and improving her provisional qualifying mark. She won the 400 in 55.73.

Tianika Sharrieff won for the second week in a row, capturing the high jump with a mark of 5-07.75. Freshman Christine Spence followed right along, finishing third with a mark of 5-05.75.

Senior Katie Barto led a 1-2 UNLV finish in the 3,000 meters. Barto's time of 10:12.13 was just seconds better than fellow Rebel Jenni Lopez, who took second in 10:15.30.

The Rebel jumping crew tacked on points, as well. Chantel Yates picked up four points in the long jump with a fifth-place finish (18-00.50), and Tiffany Smith and Belisa Suarez both scored in the triple jump, taking sixth and eighth respectively.

Also figuring into the scoring for UNLV was Patrice Harvey, who finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.37), Tiarra Jones, who captured sixth in the 60 meters (7.22), and Nickeisha Charles, who ran to an eighth-place score in the 400 meters.

The Bill Cosby Invitational was the last event on the schedule for the Rebels before the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 22-24 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
