Box Score

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Randy Holcomb scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half to lead San Diego State to an 83-66 victory Saturday night over UNLV, breaking a 10-game losing streak to the Runnin' Rebels.

Holcomb led an early second-half surge with three dunks in the first three minutes of the half as the Aztecs, who led by six at halftime, opened a 45-32 pad.

San Diego State (13-12, 3-9 Mountain West Conference) never let UNLV get closer than nine points the rest of the way as tied a team record by hitting 13 shots from 3-point range, seven in the second half.

UNLV (15-12, 6-6) trailed 68-56 with 6:22 left when the Aztecs hit three consecutive 3-pointers to take their biggest lead at 77-56 with 4:31 remaining.

UNLV center Kaspars Kambala was ejected with 7:17 left in the game when he punched San Diego State's Marcelo Correa in the back of the head while going for a rebound.

Kambala scored just six points, only the second time this season he has failed to reach double figures.

The win avenged an 82-72 overtime loss at Las Vegas on Jan. 27 in which San Diego State blew a 12-point lead in the second half.

Karlo Kovacic also scored 12 points for San Diego State, which won its second straight following a six-game losing streak. Jim Roban, Deandre Moore and Al Faux each added 11 points.

Dalron Johnson was the only Runnin' Rebel in double figures, with 17 points.

Former UNLV coach Bill Bayno watched the Runnin' Rebels play in person for the first time since he was fired on Dec. 12.
