COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV women's basketball junior forward Linda Fr?hlich was chosen as the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and claimed first team all-league honors for the second straight year, the conference announced on Monday.
In a vote of the league's head coaches, Fr?hlich shared the circuit's top billing with Utah senior Amy Ewert and was the only repeat player named to the All-MWC first team.
This season, Fr?hlich successfully defended her scoring and rebounding titles by pacing the conference with 19.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She also led the league in three-point field goal percentage (.438), 30-point games (2), 20-point games (8) and double-doubles (8), and ranked among the league leaders in several other statistical categories, including field-goal percentage, assists, steals and blocked shots.
Fr?hlich also tallied the league's single-game highs for both points and rebounds this year. Her 37 points against Pacific was the MWC's best scoring performance of the season, and she set the league record for field-goal percentage in a game after connecting on 16-of-17 shots (.941) in that game. She also pulled down a conference-best 18 rebounds in UNLV's Feb. 8 game at BYU.
A three-time MWC Player of the Week selection, Fr?hlich led her team to an 18-8 overall record and a third-place finish in the conference, the best results for the school since the 1993-94 team finished second in the Big West Conference with a 23-7 overall mark.
Ewert earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Year award while Utah coach Elaine Elliott was selected as the MWC Coach of the Year. BYU freshman Julie Whetton was named Newcomer of the Year.
Joining Fr?hlich and Ewert on the All-MWC first team were Utah junior Lauren Beckman, BYU sophomore Erin Thorn and Colorado State sophomore Ashley Augspurger.
UNLV sophomore guard Constance Jinks was also recognized by the conference, earning third team All-MWC honors after ranking fourth in the conference in scoring with 14.0 points per game. Jinks was named to the MWC's All-Newcomer team last season.
