LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior center Kaspars Kambala has been selected to the All-Mountain West Conference First Team for the second consecutive year, the conference announced Monday.
Kambala averaged 16.9 points per game (2nd in the MWC) overall and 15.4 points (5th) in conference play. He also ranks second and third in the MWC, respectively in both categories in rebounding with an average of 9.1 rpg in all games and 7.9 in league contests.
Kambala leads the MWC with nine double-doubles (37 career) and ranks second with 10 double-figure rebounding games. He was selected the Player of the Week on Nov. 27 and won the award four times in his two seasons in the league.
Kambala finished his UNLV career as the No. 4 rebounder and No. 8 scorer all-time in UNLV history.
Also selected were Marcus Bailey and Josh Davis from Wyoming, and Terrell Lyday and Mekeli Wesley from BYU. The second team included Kevin Bradley and Britton Johnson from Utah, Ruben Douglas from New Mexico, Uche Nsonwu-Amadi from Wyoming and Trent Whiting from BYU.
The All-Mountain West Conference Newcomer Team included Bradley, Douglas, Randy Holcomb from San Diego State, Nsonwu-Amadi and Whiting.
Wesley was named Player of the Year, Nsonwu-Amadi was named Newcomer of the Year, Nick Jacobson from Utah was named Freshman of the Year and Utah's Dick Hunsaker was tabbed Coach of the Year.
