Box Score
TEMPE, Ariz. - Conditions were ideal at Karsten Golf Course on Friday as 11 of the 22 teams competing in the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational came in under par following the first two rounds of competition.
The UNLV men's golf team was not among the 11 as the Rebels carded team rounds of 290 and 293 for a seven-over-par total of 583. They rank 15th heading into Saturday's final round, 29 strokes off the pace set by Texas (284-270--554).
As he has done most of the season, senior Scott Lander led the way for UNLV with a pair of par rounds of golf. However, back-to-back 72s are good only for a tie for 42nd place overall as 41 of the tourney's 115 competitors scored under the average.
Southern California's Kevin Stadler sits atop the group at nine-under par (68-67--135) and has the Trojans in second place, five strokes behind the Longhorns.
Also at par after two rounds was fellow Rebel Clark Corbett, who made up for a first-round 73 with a one-under round in the afternoon.
Freshman Brandon Askew ranked among the leaders after scoring a 70 in the morning round. He answered, however, with a 76 in the nightcap to drop to a tie for 60th place overall, two strokes over par.
Freshman Travis Whisman (76-74--150) and sophomore Calvin Kupeyan (75-77--152) round out the Rebel squad, in 88th and 99th place, respectively.
The final round of the tourney begins at 8:30 a.m. PDT on Saturday.
