Softball Drops Two To Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The UNLV softball dropped a doubleheader to Utah on Friday, 1-0 and 3-2. The Rebels move to 25-23 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Utah improves to 34-18 and 10-3-1 in conference play.

The Utes scored the lone run of the game in the first inning on a RBI single by Lindsey Trevis after a Rebel error. The Rebel had chances to equalize the score but were unable to bring anyone home. Junior pitcher Geney Orris pitched a complete game for the Rebels. Orris gave up five hits, one run, none earned and four strikeouts. She also went one for two with a double at the plate.

Game two began with the Rebels taking an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a double by Orris to set up senior Melissa Inouye who hit a run-scoring single to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. The second run came on a wild pitch as senior Linda Garza scored from third.

Utah scored three runs on four hits in the third inning to take the lead. Junior pitcher Nicole Truax came in relief of freshman Kacey Ellis and got out of a bases loaded no out jam to get out of the inning with only three runs scored. Truax went the rest of the way for the Rebels allowing two hits no runs, three walks and two strikouts.

The Rebels will face BYU on Saturday in Provo. First-pitch is set for noon. UNLV will return to the Rebel Diamond next Friday with a doubleheader against New Mexico. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
