Lobos Double Up Netters

April 6, 2001

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The injury-plagued 36th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost its second consecutive match, 4-2, to unranked New Mexico on the campus of the U.S. Air Force Academy Friday.

The Rebels fell to 11-8 overall and 2-2 in the Mountain West Conference while the Lobos improved to 13-4 and 3-0.

With only five players making the trip, the depleted Rebels began the day by defaulting the third doubles match and No. 6 singles match. UNM then won both remaining doubles matches to earn one team point.

In singles, UNLV got wins at the top two positions when 56th-ranked Nenad Zivkovic rallied to defeat Takeshi Itoh, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Thomas Schneiter swept Bart Scott 6-2, 7-5. UNM, however, got victories at the Nos. 3 and 4 spots to clinch the match and the fifth court did not finish.

The Rebels close out their regular season with a conference match-up vs. host Air Force Saturday.
