LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team had two players named to the 2001 All-West Region Softball team, the school announced Thursday. Senior Racheal Goodpaster earned her third consecutive First Team All-West Region honors. Junior Samantha Kimura made the second team.
Goodpaster, a native of Fair Oaks, Calif., led the Rebels this season with a .349 batting average and a team-high nine home runs. She also swiped a team-high 13 bases in 17 attempts. Goodpaster earned her third consecutive All-Conference honors this season as well. She also was named MWC Player of the Week two times this season. Goodpaster played most of the season as an outfielder instead of shortstop where she played her previous three years.
Kimura, a native of Placentia, Calif., made the second team for the first time in her career, after transferring to UNLV this year. She batted .306 with four home runs and 30 RBI. Kimura led all catchers in the MWC in runners caught stealing, with 26. Kimura was also named to the MWC All-Conference Team. Kimura also earned player of the week honors once this season.
