LAS VEGAS - Former area prep soccer standout Heather Dahl has been named assistant coach for the UNLV women's soccer program.
Dahl joins the Rebels after serving a two-year term as women's soccer head coach at Dixie College in St. George, Utah. In 1998, her junior college team finished fifth nationally among NJCAA schools and third nationally in 1999, winning conference and division championships in both seasons. She took over the program in only its second year of being a sanctioned sport at Dixie College and guided several players to National and Academic All-American recognition.
"I am very excited to have Heather join our staff," UNLV coach Dan Abdalla said. "She brings a great level of knowledge of the game, combined with the experience of building a program into a national powerhouse. She will be key in turning our program into one of the elite programs in women's collegiate soccer."
A Las Vegas native, Dahl (maiden name Mendenhall) attended Bonanza High School where she was a four-time All-State player, team MVP and Sunset Division MVP. She was also a member of two state championship teams and went back to her alma mater in 1996 to serve as a volunteer assistant coach.
Dahl is a 2000 graduate of Brigham Young University where she earned her bachelor's degree in psychology. She was a three-year starting forward for the Cougars from 1993-96 and led the team in scoring her sophomore season.
She is married to former BYU men's soccer player Devon Dahl (1993-96) and the couple has two children, son Sterling (5) and daughter Siri (2).
