Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Christine Parris-Washington scored the game's only run in the top of the eighth to lead the UNLV Alumni to a 1-0 upset of the 2002 Rebel team at the grand opening of Eller Media Stadium on Saturday.

After seven scoreless innings, Parris-Washington led off the eighth with a walk. Rebel relief pitcher Jackie Kerrigan then retired the next two batters before an Amie Stewart ground ball was mishandled by shortstop Kira Enlow allowing Parris-Washington to score from second.

Despite losing the exhibition, the Rebels' pitching staff looked outstanding, permitting just two hits and no earned runs on the day. Seniors Geney Orris and Nicole Truax both threw two innings, gave up one walk and struck out a pair. Sophomore Kacey Ellis was rescued by a double play in the sixth before Kerrigan gave up a single and double in the seventh.

For the alumni, starting pitcher Lori Harrigan and reliever Amie Stewart combined for the eight-inning, five-hit shutout. Senior catcher Melissa Inuoye did the most damage to the pair, going 3-for-3.

Aside from the game, a short on-field ceremony honord the donors responsible for funding the new facility: Eller Media Group, Jim Rogers, Jerry and Sue Lykins and the UNLV Foundation.

The Rebels will officially open the 2002 season on Feb. 5, when they host Saint Mary's College in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
