Box Score

LAS VEGAS - In its Mountain West Conference season opener, the UNLV women's soccer team fell to league rival New Mexico, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

New Mexico's Rachael Addison scored her second straight lone goal of the weekend on a rebounded shot off a defender deflection in the eighth minute. Addison netted the game-winner in the Lobos' 1-0 shutout of San Diego State on Friday night.

UNM goalkeeper Kristen Winters worked all game long with the Rebels taking 17 shots with eight chances on target. Winters earned her second shutout of the weekend with eight saves, while UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Huff (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made three saves.

Several scoring opportunities by the Rebels kept the game close. Prior to halftime at 42:33, a penalty kick was awarded to UNLV after freshman Nickie Olson (Las Vegas) was fouled hard in the penalty area by a Lobo defender. Senior co-captain Cristyn Enea (San Ramon, Calif.) took the PK, which was saved by Winters.

In the 79th minute, sophomore Blynnda Bascones (Las Vegas) had a diving header bounce off the goal post, one-of-six equalizing goal attempts made by the Rebels in the final minutes of regulation.

UNLV (8-4-1, 0-1-0 MWC) will host its last two home games of the season versus league foes Air Force on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Wyoming on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon in Las Vegas. Six seniors will play in their last home match on "Senior Day" versus Wyoming.
