Four Rebels Receive All-Conference Honors

WOODLAND, Calif. - Four UNLV men's soccer players received All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors by a vote of conference coaches announced Saturday.

Junior midfielder Alex Hernandez (Indio, Calif.) and senior forward Kelly Frederick (St. John's, Antigua) were both named to the All-MPSF First Team. Hernandez and Frederick, the conference's No. 1 and No. 2 leading scorers, were both MPSF Brine Player of the Week selections in 2002.

Hernandez and Frederick combined for nearly half of the Rebels' scoring this season. Hernandez tabulated a team and league-leading 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. He now ranks 10th on the school's all-time career scoring list with 59 career points on 23 goals and 13 assists. Last year, Hernandez was named to the All-MPSF Second Team.

Frederick, the team's second leading scorer, notched 25 points on 10 goals and five assists in 2002. In just two seasons with the Rebels, the former junior college transfer amassed 41 career points on 16 goals and nine assists. Last season, he was named to the All-Far West Third Team.

Senior defender Reggie Bolden (Jacksonville, Ark.) received second team honors and accumulated 18 career points on six goals and six assists during his Rebel career. An intregal part of the Rebel backline since 1998, Bolden was previously named all-conference honorable mention in 2000 as a sophomore.

Sophomore defender Kristian Paananen (Espoo, Finland) rounded out the Rebels receiving all-conference accolades. Paananen was named an honorable mention selection, his first career honor.

Tournament Notes...Junior Alex Hernandez was named to the 2002 MPSF All-Tournament Team.
