LAS VEGAS - Behind an offense that banged out seven runs and 10 hits and a pitching staff that held Cal Poly in check, the UNLV softball team rolled to its fourth straight win, 7-3 in the final game of the UNLV Softball Classic at Desert Breeze Park on Sunday.
The Rebels (7-5) got solid performances from every hitter in the lineup. At least seven different players collected a hit, most of which came in UNLV's five-run third inning. Geney Orris began a two-out rally with an RBI single. A single by Pauline Glenn set up Morgan Bostwick to drive Orris in and force the Mustangs (6-4) to replace starting pitcher Jennifer Graver.
Melissa Inouye kept the rally alive, welcoming Cal Poly's Eva Nelson to the game with a fourth-straight hit to score Glenn and Bostwick. Arica Painter walked to put Inouye in scoring position for Lisa Moses, who clubbed UNLV's fifth single and fifth RBI in the inning.
Defensively, the Rebels played well enough to win. Orris, in her fourth start of the year, pitched around three infield errors and was really only hurt by a fifth-inning two-run homer by Holly Ballard.
Orris pitched into the sixth, surrendering five singles and the Ballard homer. Jackie Kerrigan relieved Orris, seating five of six batters to earn her second save of the week.
Glenn was the Rebs' leader at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and two walks. Shawna Goessling laid down a pair of sacrifice bunts and stole two bases.
UNLV posted a 4-1 mark in their host tournament and will return home to Eller Media Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Southern Utah.
