LAS VEGAS - Pacific's Boni Kading hit a one-out double in the bottom of the eight to drive in the game-winning run and lead the Tigers to a 4-3 win over the UNLV softball team at Eller Media Stadium on Saturday.
The Tigers (8-3) needed the extra frame to hand the Rebels (9-6) their first loss in their new stadium and snap the squad's six-game winning streak.
Kading's double took advantage of the softball tie-breaker rule, which places the last batter from the previous inning on second base. It was something UNLV could not do in the top half of the eighth.
The Rebels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game when senior catcher Melissa Inouye lifted a three-run shot into the wind in the fourth inning, her first homer of the year.
UOP trailed until the bottom of the sixth. The Tigers' Ashlie D'Errico and Barbara Moody each doubled off Rebel starter Jackie Kerrigan to lead off the inning. Three batters later, Cindy Ball's single drove home two more runs to knot the game at three.
It was the first loss for Jackie the K in her last five appearances. The freshman fireballer struck out four but fell to 2-3 on the year. Ball, pitching in relief of Ashlie Platten, collected the win and improved to 5-2.
