PHOENIX - Despite a complete-game, eight-hit, six-strikeout performance from senior Nicole Truax, the UNLV softball team could not get on the scoreboard and fell to No. 5 California, 5-0 at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament at Rose Mofford Softball Complex on Saturday.
Truax (0-1) received little run support from her teammates as the Rebels (3-3) produced only five hits and never advanced a runner past first base.
The Golden Bears (4-3) manufactured the go-ahead run, using a leadoff walk, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single by shortstop Chelsea Spencer. They tacked on a second run in a similar manner in the third, and held the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when two walks and three singles produced three runs.
Pauline Glenn highlighted a quiet evening for UNLV, going 2-for-3.
The Rebels conclude play in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. when they face Texas A&M.
