LAS VEGAS - The inaugural UNLV Women's Tennis Spring Invitational kicked off Friday with both higher ranked teams winning the morning matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, which is located on campus.

Despite resting its top two singles players, No. 6-ranked Wake Forest improved to 8-1 on the year with a 6-1 win over unranked UC Santa Barbara.

The Deamon Deacons will face No. 49 Tulsa (7-2) in one of Saturday's semifinals (2 p.m. PST) after the Golden Hurricane got by 67th-ranked New Mexico 5-2 despite the Lobos earning upset victories at both the top singles and doubles spots.

UCSB (3-8) will meet New Mexico (4-6) in the losers' bracket Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Friday's later matches feature No. 40 South Alabama taking on unranked Furman and host UNLV, ranked 53rd, facing unranked Boston College.
