March 12, 2002

LAS VEGAS - The world's best women's soccer players will convene in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 23 as the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) hosts a preseason exhibition match between the San Jose CyberRays and the San Diego Spirit which will benefit the UNLV Women's Sports Foundation.

The game, which features U.S. Olympians and World Cup Champions, will be played at the Cimarron Memorial High School football stadium, located at Lake Mead and Tenaya at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 each.

"Having the best female athletes in the world, like Brandi Chastain, Julie Foudy and Shannon MacMillan, play right here in Las Vegas is such a great opportunity for young girls to see their role models up-close and inspire their own success," UNLV women's soccer coach Dan Abdalla said. "The fact that both teams, the management and players have agreed to play this game to benefit the UNLV Women's Sports Foundation is even more exciting and shows their committment to providing women athletes with opportunities."

The UNLV Women's Sports Foundation is committed to assisting female student-athletes throughout their collegiate endeavors. The organization also raises funds for fifth-year scholarships and for the enhancement of women's athletic programs at UNLV.
