Box Score

SACRAMENTO - Freshman pitcher Jackie Kerrigan tossed a one-hit shutout to gain her fifth victory of the year as the UNLV softball team defeated tournament-host Sacramento State, 3-0, at the Capital Classic on Friday.

Kerrigan (5-6) dominated the Hornet hitters for seven innings, giving up only a leadoff single to Cathy Coupar in the fourth inning while striking out three and walking one.

The Rebels (14-16) also gave Kerrigan some offensive support, pounding out seven hits. The first of those came in the second inning on a leadoff double down the left field line by Pauline Glenn. Glenn moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Morgan Bostwick and scored the game's first run on a Rnet fielding error.

Although Kerrigan controlled Sac State's (10-16) hitters, the Rebels clung to their 1-0 lead until the sixth inning. Following a leadoff walk by Geney Orris, Glenn delivered her second double down the line. Another Hornet fielding miscue allowed both runs to score and nail down the victory.

Glenn and Bostwick both collected two hits in the win, and the Rebels played their second consecutive errorless game. It was also the second straight shutout for UNLV.
