Cowboys Double Up Men's Tennis

March 18, 2002

LAS VEGAS - The 75th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost for the first time at home in six outings this spring, 4-2, to No. 71 Oklahoma State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Monday.

The Rebels dropped to 6-6 overall and the Cowboys improved to 4-2.

UNLV began the day by splitting two doubles matches before OSU eked out a 9-8 (4) win at the second position to take the team point.

In singles play, UNLV tied it when Andreas Maurer quickly won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6. After OSU's Fran Krepelka won a second-set tiebreaker at No. 2 for a 2-1 Cowboy lead, UNLV's 62nd-ranked Thomas Schneiter evened things again by outlasting Matt Prentice at the top spot, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4, for his eighth straight win.

The visitors, however, took the next two matches in three sets to clinch the team victory. The match at No. 3 was then halted.

UNLV continues its non-conference schedule by hosting Drake on Wednesday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
