ST. GEORGE, Utah - Eastern Kentucky pitcher Jonelle Csora dominated the UNLV softball team, holding it to just one hit and one run to guide the Colonels to a 6-1 victory at the Utah Red Desert Classic on Saturday.
UNLV (9-13) looked bewildered at the plate, unable to hit Csora until the sixth inning. Pitcher Kacey Ellis finally broke up the no-hit bid with a single on the last play of the inning to drive in the Rebels' only run.
Aside from Ellis' hit, the Rebels sent only six runners to the base path, three by walks and three by Colonel errors.
Meanwhile, EKU (4-5) pounded out seven hits and took advantage of a sloppy Rebel defense that committed five errors. The Colonels leapt to a 2-0 edge behind a four-hit second inning and never looked back.
Once she had the lead, Csora cruised, retiring 11 straight batters at one point and striking out seven in the Colonels' first win of the tourney.
EKU needed only a pair of singles to tack on three more runs in the fifth. Two fielding errors and a wild throw made all three runs unearned.
Ellis swallowed her second loss of the year to fall to an even 2-2. Only the first two of EKU's six runs were earned.
The Rebels, 0-4 in the Red Desert Classic, look to snap their eight-game losing streak in Sunday's tournament finale against Utah State at 10:00 a.m. PST.
