SAN DIEGO - The 15th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost the doubles point for only the fifth time all season and as a result had its six-match winning streak snapped by Mountain West Conference-rival San Diego State, 4-3, at the SDSU Tennis Courts Thursday.

The Lady Rebels, who were playing their first road match since February 16, fell to 13-3 on the season overall and 2-1 in the league. The 29th-ranked Aztecs, who were the lowest ranked team to defeat UNLV this spring, won their fifth straight to improve to 10-6 overall and are now alone in first place in the MWC with a 3-0 mark.

SDSU opened the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point - all by the score of 8-5.

In singles play, UNLV quickly tied things at one when Gyorgyi Zsiros cruised by Lindsey Hedberg 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 position. The 88th-ranked freshman has now won 11 straight matches to improve to 22-7 overall.

The hosts, however, then won three straight-set matches and clinched the win. UNLV closed out the day getting super-tiebreaker victories by Agnieszka Abram at No. 3 and Tracie Chong on the fourth court, who improved to 20-6 in her rookie season.

"San Diego State played an outstanding match today," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "The conditions were extremely cold and we were a tired team after playing two days ago (in a 5-2 home victory over Auburn) and then traveling. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for us and can help us get better for the home stretch of the season."

The Lady Rebels continue conference play by staying in San Diego to face Colorado State Friday beginning at 10 a.m.
