Lady Rebels Rush Rams

March 29, 2002

SAN DIEGO - The 15th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team rebounded from yesterday's upset loss by shutting out Colorado State 7-0 at the SDSU Tennis Courts Friday.

The Lady Rebels improved to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in the league. The unranked Rams fell to 5-9 and 0-1.

UNLV opened the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point - only losing five games along the way.

In singles play, UNLV did not lose a set en route to its sixth shutout of the season. At the top spot, 71st-ranked Paulina Janus downed Sanja Hansson 7-5, 6-1 while 88th-ranked Gyogyi Zsiros won her 12th straight match to improve to 23-7 overall, 6-1, 6-0 over Amanda Bartz at the second position. Also winning in straight sets were Agnieszka Abram at No. 3, Tracie Chong at No. 4, Marianne Bakken at No. 5 and Amy Hadziosmanovic on the sixth court.

"It felt good to get back in form today," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "After struggling Thursday (in a 4-3 loss to San Diego State), we really picked up the pace and played solid tennis from top to bottom in the lineup."

The Lady Rebels continue conference play by staying in San Diego to face Wyoming Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
