LAS VEGAS - Freshman Pauline Glenn's three-run homer in the first inning sparked a 10-hit performance by the UNLV softball team as the Rebels defeated Utah 7-1 in the nightcap of a Mountain West Conference doubleheader at Eller Media Stadium on Saturday.

UNLV (19-25, 1-3) rebounded from a 9-5 loss in the day's opening game to earn its first conference win of the season.

Glenn's home run, an opposite-field shot, was her second of the day and seventh of the season, and gave Rebel starter Geney Orris (4-6) more than enough breathing room to pick up the victory.

Orris, coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at Oregon State last Wednesday in which she gave up just three hits, continued to look sharp on Saturday. The senior star allowed just four hits and a single run while fanning 10 in an impressive outing.

Not resting on a 3-0 lead, UNLV scored in the third, fourth and sixth innings to total seven runs on 10 hits. Despite going 2-for-4 at the plate, Glenn drove in five of those runs. Lisa Moses drove in another on a 2-for-4, two-double outing, and Orris hit a double of her own to push the last run across.

The Rebels had no shortage of hitting in the opener either, pounding out 15 hits. However, only five runs scored on those hits as 14 runners were left on base.

Utah (12-27, 2-2) also moved the ball in the first game, collecting 13 hits off Rebel pitchers Kacey Ellis and Jackie Kerrigan. Six of those came in the second inning, which the Utes used to take a 7-0 edge in the game.

Ellis surrendered a double, a home run and two singles before Kerrigan entered the game in relief. The Utes found a couple more singes against Kerrigan, pushing the rest of the runs across to build their 7-0 lead.

UNLV slowly battled back, scoring once in the third, twice in the fourth and twice more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5. The last two runs were courtesy of Glenn's first dinger of the day, a booming shot to left field.

Utah quelled the Rebel threat in the top of the seventh, tacking on an extra pair of runs on two hits and the Rebels' first fielding error in six games.

Although she gave up just four hits, Ellis (5-3) was charged with six of the Utes' runs in the second inning and lost for the first time in her last four starts. Kerrigan earned no decision, but gave up nine hits and three runs against two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

Heather Bowlin (8-12) earned both decisions for Utah on the day. She picked up the victory after Jennifer Pursell failed to complete four innings as the Utes' starter and was tagged with the loss after allowing Glenn's second homer.

The Rebels continue their current seven-game home stand on Wednesday, April 3, when they host UC Riverside in a non-conference single game at 1:00 p.m. at Eller Media Stadium.
