COLUMBUS, Ohio - The UNLV men's golf team retained its lead after the second round of the Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday, again shooting a four-over par 288 to lead the 17-team field.
The Rebels have a three-stroke lead over Colorado after the Buffaloes shot a round-best 284. Only one other team - Purdue at 14-over par - sits within striking distance of the Rebels.
Clark Corbett emerged as the Rebels' new hero as one of just five players to break 70 on the day. He made a huge leap on the leaderboard, climbing from 25th to a tie for second after shooting 69 on Saturday. He trails individual leader Lee Williamson of Purdue by four strokes.
Freshman Ryan Moore carded a second straight 72 on the par-71 Scarlet Course and is tied for seventh, one stroke behind Corbett.
Brandon Askew and J.C. Deacon, UNLV's first-round leaders, still find themselves in the top 10 after shooting matching 74s. Both players are tied for ninth at three-over.
However, only one of the 74s counted toward the Rebs' team 288 as Brie Davis bounced back from Friday's 76 to shoot 73 and climb into a tie for 32nd overall.
If UNLV can hold off the field in Sunday's final round, it would collect its first team victory since dominating the 2000 Mountain West Conference Championship with a 23-stroke win.
Sunday's tee times begin at 8:00 a.m., and the Rebels will begin the day at 9:20 a.m.
