FFC Frankfurt Downs Women's Soccer

May 24, 2002

FRANKFURT, Germany - UNLV women's soccer midfielder Blynnda Bascones (Las Vegas) scored the Rebels' only goal in a 4-1 loss to FFC Frankfurt Friday in the first game of the team's 11-day tour of Europe.

Bascones, a sophomore, did not permit the shutout off a set piece from junior defender Tania Lee (Thornton, Colo.), to mark her first unofficial career collegiate goal.

FFC Frankfurt, the No. 1 ranked professional team in Europe, recently won the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Women's Cup Championship Wednesday against Sweden. Four of their current members were part of Germany's 1999 Women's World Cup team and 12 are members of the German National Team.

The Rebels continue their European vacation through Friday, May 31. Shopping and sightseeing in Frankfurt concludes today's activities as the team heads to Holland for the next three days.
