LAS VEGAS - A program-record five UNLV women's players and three Rebel men earned a spot on the 2002 Academic All-Mountain West Conference Tennis Team, the league announced.

Five of UNLV's six starting women's singles players were included on the list with the remaining starting Lady Rebel ineligible for the award because she enrolled in January. The previous high for the program was four, which was accomplished in 2001, 2000, 1999, 1995 and 1994.

Two of the conference champion Lady Rebels - sophomore All-MWC singles and doubles player Agnieszka Abram and senior Marianne Bakken -- were repeat honorees with Bakken having earned the award all four years of her career.

Joining them in 2002 were freshmen Tracie Chong and MWC Freshman of the Year Gyorgyi Zsiros. Junior All-MWC singles and doubles performer Paulina Janus rounded out the UNLV women's contingent.

Senior All-American Thomas Schneiter headed the men's side for the second consecutive season while junior Leslie Eisinga also made his second straight appearance on the list. They were joined by MWC Freshman of the Year Aviram Salomon.

To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor.
