LAS VEGAS - In preseason exhibition play, the UNLV women's soccer team handed Dixie College a 3-0 shutout Wednesday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Fifteen seconds into the game, freshman midfielder Michelle Cowles (Littleton, Colo.) scored the first unofficial goal of the 2002 season after floating the ball from 30-yards out off the tip. Both teams ran the field for the remaining time thereafter.

During the second half, junior Erin Egertson (Mission Viejo, Calif.) reopened the scoring with a putback at the top of the box off a blocked shot by Dixie College at 71:35. Egertson later earned an assist, sending a right side cross pass toward sophomore Annii Magliulo (Pengrove, Calif.) on the attack, who sunk in a header in the 77th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Desiree Kelly (Virginia Beach, Va.) started in goal with five saves, while freshman Jenna Huff (Huntington Beach, Calif.) contributed two saves in relief.

The Rebels next host Mesa State on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The exhibition game will be played at Peter Johann Memorial Field with free admission to the public.
