LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team defeated Fresno State, 2-1, on a game-winning goal by freshman Nickie Olson (Las Vegas) in the 55th minute Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Olson, a local product out of Centennial High School, notched the unassisted game-winner in traffic from 18-yards out. This marked the freshman's second goal of the season.
Sophomore Annii Magliulo (Pengrove, Calif.) connected on a pass from sophomore Codi Schumaker (Torrance, Calif.) at 25:04 to give the Rebels the 1-0 lead before the half. Magliulo scored her fourth goal of the season from outside the 18-yard box and currently leads the team in scoring with eight points.
The Bulldogs leveled the match in the second half on a header by Kortney Lewis off a leftside serve from teammate Kotri Nokso-Koivisto at 47:21.
Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Huff (Huntington Beach, Calif.) earned her first career win in goal posting two saves, while Fresno State's Mary-tyler Wahl made three saves.
The Rebels improve to 3-0-1 on the season and will continue their four-game homestand hosting the UNLV / FILA Classic on Sept. 13 and 15 at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Montana, Weber State and San Diego State round out the four-team tournament field.
UNLV will face Montana on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m., while Weber State and San Diego State meet prior at 4:30 p.m.
