Rebels Ready For First Place Spartans

LAS VEGAS - Coming off a hard fought 3-1 loss at home to San Diego State on Monday, the UNLV men's soccer team looks to rebound on Thursday night as they host Mountain Pacific Sports Federation leader San Jose State in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Peter Johann Field.

UNLV (4-9, 1-1 MPSF) has been led by the play of senior midfielder Alex Hernandez with eight goals and four assists on the year, and has assisted on the Rebels' last three goals over the past two games. Victor 'Boomer' Arbelaez is next on the team in points with 10 on four goals and two assists, while Leandro Iocco is third with three goals and two assists for eight points. Peter Clitheroe has seen the majority of time in goal, and has 32 saves and a 2.44 goals against average. He posted his first shutout of the season against New Mexico in a 2-0 win on Oct. 18.

San Jose State sits atop the conference standings at 3-0 after recording wins over Air Force, Denver, and Sacramento State, and are 8-3-2 overall. Randy Foggio leads the team with nine goals and three assists for 21 points, while Johnny Gonzalez has added seven goals and two assists for 16 points. In goal, the Spartans have used a total of three goalies, with Eddie Dominquez playing a team-high 787:40 minutes. He has a 1.14 goals against average, and posted 20 saves and three shutouts while recording a 5-3-2 record.

Following the game, the Rebels will play their final home game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 26, as the Rebels will host Sacramento State in Senior Day matchup at Noon, also at Peter Johann Field.
