LAS VEGAS - Six of eight UNLV singles players are still alive after the first round of the 2003 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships, which opened at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Wednesday.
Rebel players went 4-2 in their opening main-draw matches while two other enjoyed first-day byes.
Winning for UNLV were Marko Blagojevic over Seth Banks of Idaho, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, Milos Blagojevic over Zach Rideout of Weber State 6-3, 6-4, Romain Massaro over Kapil Desai of Idaho State 6-1, 6-1 and Sean Margulis over Ryo Sakamoto of Idaho Sttae 6-3, 6-2.
Those four will join ninth-seeded Henner Nehles and 14th-seeded Aviram Salomon in playing second-round matches Thursday. A third round of singles will follow.
In doubles play, Nehles and Salomon moved into the Round of 16 with two victories. The Rebel duo will face fourth-seeded Richard Dasek and Erik Nyman of BYU on Friday.
More than 120 players from 16 western teams have gathered for the event, which runs through Sunday on campus.
