LAS VEGAS - A pair of Rebels picked up two wins apiece Thursday to advance to Friday's Round of 16 at the 2003 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships, which continued at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Rebel players went 5-4 overall in Thursday's main draw. Advancing was ninth-seeded Henner Nehles, who downed BYU's Nima Roshan 6-3, 6-3 and then swept Montana's Stan Nevolovich 6-3, 6-1. Joining him from UNLV was Romain Massaro who improved to 8-0 this fall with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Weber State's Mathis Saberon and a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tejeshwata Chigateri of Montana State.

Another Rebel, 14th-seeded Aviram Salomon, won his second-round match, 6-3, 6-1 over Marek Gebicki of Montana State before falling in three sets later in the day to Colorado's Marek Dvorak, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

More than 120 players from 16 western teams have gathered for the event, which runs through Sunday on campus. There will be one round of singles and two rounds of doubles Friday.
