Oct. 30, 2003

Box Score

DENVER - Senior midfielder Alex Hernandez scored his team-leading 10th goal of the year to give UNLV a 1-0 shutout victory over Denver in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action on Thursday afternoon in Denver, Colo.

The Rebels picked up a key second win in conference play to improve to 2-3 in the MPSF, 5-11 overall. UNLV is currently tied for second in the MPSF with six points from their two wins, and a win in their next game at Air Force on Sunday would clinch a MPSF tournament berth, which goes out to only the top six teams in the conference. Denver fell to 7-8-2 on the year, and have four points in conference play with a 1-3-1 MPSF mark.

Hernandez's score came in the first half, as he scored on a breakaway at 32:27 for the only goal for the game, putting UNLV up 1-0. Denver outshot the Rebels 18-3 for the game, but couldn't find the back of the net as Peter Clitheroe collected five saves in goal for UNLV. Lami Harmon finished with one save and one goal allowed for the Pioneers.

UNLV finishes out the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Air Force in a 1 p.m. matchup. The MPSF Tournament will start play on Thursday, Nov. 14 in Sacramento, Calif.
