LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team closes out the regular season with a Senior night contest against Mountain West Conference rival San Diego State on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. from Peter Johann Field. The Rebels, 7-9-2 on the year, are also looking to improve their standings in the conference before the MWC tournament starts next week, as UNLV is currently in sixth place with a 1-4 record in league play, but can rise to fifth with a win over the Aztecs.
Goalkeepers Jenna Huff and Desiree Kelly have been very strong in goal for the Rebels, helping the team post a 1.40 goals against average and seven shutouts on the season, which has tied the school record first set in 2001. On offense, the Rebels have been led by junior midfielder Anni Magliulo, tied for first in goals with eight and tied for first in points with 18. Erin Egertson and Rachael Buscovich have both added three goals on the year.
San Diego State is 7-8-2 overall and 2-2-1 on the season. Last weekend the Aztecs were held to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at New Mexico, but did take a 1-0 win at Air Force. They are led this year by Kim Castellanos with six goals and one assist for 12 points, while Lisette Martinez and Becky Prilaman both have four assists on the season. Stephanie Pearson is posting a 1.35 goals against average, and has a league-high seven shutouts for the year.
