RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Edgar Alejo scored two goals to lead UC Riverside to a 4-1 victory over UNLV in men's collegiate soccer on Sunday afternoon in Riverside, Calif. The Rebels fall to 3-8 on the year with the loss, while the Highlanders improved to 4-4-1.
Despite outshooting the host Highlanders 23-11 for the game, the Rebels couldn't get past the outstanding goalkeeping of Charles Alamo and Josh Alexander, as the two combined for 11 saves for the game. UCR took a 1-0 lead with just 12 seconds before the end of the first half, on Alejo's first goal of the game at 44:48. Alejo added the eventual game-winner at the 55:58 mark, for a 2-0 UCR advantage. The Highlanders would go up 4-0 on goals by Kick Supergan at 79:56 and Luc Harrington at 81:52, before UNLV finally got on the scoreboard. Rod Dyachenko tallied his first goal of the game on an assist from Jon Dunning at the 83:19 mark to make it 4-1, and that was the final score of the game.
UNLV will not return to action until Saturday, October 18, as the Rebels open their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schedule at New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. in Alburquerque, N.M.
