WOODLAND, Calif. - UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Peter Clitheroe was named MPSF Brine Co-Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to two straight victories and to second place in the MPSF, the conference announced on Tuesday. It is the first career weekly honor for Clitheroe, who was named along with New Mexico's goalkeeper Andrew Weber. Clitheroe is the second Rebel to earn Player of the Week honors this year, as Alex Hernandez was earned weekly honors on Sept. 16.
Clitheroe was outstanding in goal for the Rebels in shutouts victories at Denver and Air Force. In a 1-0 win at Denver, he finished with five saves in goal on Oct. 30, and added eight saves against Air Force in a 2-0 victory on Nov. 2. For the year, Clitheroe has 53 saves, and is tied for third in the conference with three shutouts.
The Rebels have finished the regular season at 6-11 overall, but are currently tied for second in the MPSF with a 3-3 record. UNLV will await the conclusion of conference play this weekend, and will find out their seed and opening opponent in the 2003 MPSF Tournament, held on Nov. 13-16 in Sacramento, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 9.
