Huff Named MWC Defensive Player Of The Week

Nov. 4, 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Huff was named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to their first-ever victory over San Diego State, the conference announced on Tuesday. The weekly honor was the first of the season for the Rebels.

Huff, a native of Huntington Beach, Calif., collected five saves in goal to earn her second straight shutout and help the Rebels to the 1-0 victory over San Diego State in their season finale. It was the first-ever win over the Aztecs for UNLV in seven games, and lifted the Rebels to fifth place in the MWC.

It was also the second straight shutout for Huff, which gave her a new school record six shutouts for the season, breaking the previous record of five she set as a freshman in 2002. The shutout gave the Rebels eight for the season, also a new school record, topping the mark of seven set in 2001. Huff has not allowed a goal in the last 195:40 for the Rebels. UNLV, 8-9-2 overall and 2-4 in the conference, is the fifth seed in the 2003 Mountain West Conference Championships and will rematch San Diego State in the first round, as they will meet the fourth-seeded Aztecs on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Noon in Salt Lake City, Utah.
