SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. - Senior defender Tania Lee's second goal of the season was the eventual game-winner as the fifth-seeded Rebels claimed a 2-1 victory over fourth-seeded San Diego State on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the 2003 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championships, held at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

UNLV evened its record at 9-9-2 with its third straight victory, while San Diego State finished the season at 7-10-2. The win, the first for UNLV in the conference tournament since a 2-1 overtime win over Air Force in the 2001 tournament, moves the Rebels into the semifinals for the second time in the five-year history of the conference. The Rebels will meet top-seeded and regular season champion Utah at 4 p.m., as the Utes received a bye in the first round.

UNLV's victory was its second straight over San Diego State in as many games, as the Rebels posted a 1-0 victory in Las Vegas on Nov. 1. It marks a reversal of last season, when the Aztecs defeated UNLV in the last regular season and again in the first round of the MWC Tournament. The win is also the third straight over a conference opponent for UNLV, marking the first-time in school history the Rebels have won three straight against conference teams.

Senior Erin Egerston scored for the second time this season against the Aztecs, as she took a pass from Angie Inzana and sent a shot to the upper right corner for a 1-0 lead at the 7:08 mark. It was the second goal for Egerston in the last 14:44 against San Diego State, as she posted the game-winner against the Aztecs in the Nov. 1 contest in the 83rd minute.

Lee added to the lead at the 66:12 mark with a shot from 12 yards out that just got past the outstretched hands of SDSU goalkeeper Stephanie Pearson. The Aztecs cut into the lead with a score from Jessica Korpela at 72:23, as she headed in Becky Prilaman's cross pass, but UNLV's Jenna Huff stayed strong in goal the rest of the game to give the Rebels the victory.
