Record-High Four Rebels Named All-Conference

Nov. 5, 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV placed a school record four players on the 2003 All-Mountain West Women's Soccer teams, the conference announced on Tuesday night at its pre-championship banquet.

Annii Magliulo, a junior midfielder of Pengrove, Calif., earned first team all-conference honors after leading the Rebels and tying for first in the conference in goals scored with eight and total points with 20. Magliulo also posted four game-winning goals on the season, which was the second-best mark in the league.

The Rebels also placed three on the second team, highlighted by Tania Lee's selection. Lee, a senior defender from Thornton, Colo., was named All-MWC for the third time in her career, making her just the second Rebel to earn all-conference honors three times, along with former Rebel Anita Pedford (1999-2001). Lee finished the regular season with one goal, the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Arizona on Sept. 27.

Earning their first all-conference selections were Jenny Ruiz and Jenna Huff. Ruiz, a junior defender of Corona, Calif., played in 13 games with eight starts for the Rebels. Huff, a sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., was a co-selection for goalkeeper on the second team, and turned in an outstanding year for the Rebels. Her 1.18 goals against average for the season is under the current Rebel record of 1.27 she set last year, and she's also set a new school record for shutouts in a season with six, while helping UNLV set a team record with eight shutouts in 2003.

Amber Brown of Utah was named the MWC Offensive Player of the Year, while BYU's Aleisha Rose as the Defensive Player of the Year. Utah's Amanda Feigt was named Freshman of the Year, and Wyoming's Anne Moore is the Coach of the Year after leading the Cowgirls to a tie for second place in the conference standings at 4-2.

UNLV, fifth-seed in the 2003 MWC Tournament held in Salt Lake City, Utah, opens play on Wednesday against fourth-seed San Diego State. Due to snowfall in the Salt Lake City area, the tournament has been moved to Rice-Eccles Stadium, and the Rebels' game has been moved back to a 4 p.m. start.
