MWC ROUND 2
The UNLV women's basketball team (13-7, 4-3) begins the second half of conference play hosting San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:35 p.m. The game will be broadcast live from Cox Pavilion on KSHP 1400 AM radio and via an Internet link on unlvrebels.com with Bob Blum, the dean of West Coast broadcasters, calling play-by-play action for his 16th season with the Lady Rebels.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
San Diego State (8-11, 2-5): The Aztecs have won two conference games this season versus Air Force (73-55) and Colorado State (60-47). SDSU's top scorer Jamey Cox is averaging 13.9 points per game and is a three-point scoring threat shooting 34 percent from behind the arc. Freshman newcomer Ashlee Dunlap continues to lead the Aztecs and conference in rebounding averaging nine boards per game. As a team, San Diego State ranks third in the league in scoring defense (59.7 ppg).
SERIES HISTORY
UNLV holds a 14-11 all-time advantage over San Diego State. The Lady Rebels have won six straight in the series and have only lost once to the Aztecs in Mountain West Conference play.
LAST TIME OUT
UNLV narrowly defeated SDSU, 50-48, in both team's conference opener on Jan. 18. Senior Constance Jinks led all scorers with 20 points, while teammate Julia Gray added nine. The game was delayed a little over an hour due to a power outage at Cox Arena in San Diego.
LADY REBELS AND THE RPI
In the latest WBCA/Summerville RPI index, the Lady Rebels are rated No. 102, while San Diego State follows behind at No. 205. Upcoming opponents: Brigham Young (44) and league leader Utah (24).
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
The UNLV vs. San Diego State game presented by KTUD on Saturday, Feb. 15 will feature "Beach Night" with $1 admission offered to all fans wearing beach attire. There will be hula hoop contests and other fun action throughout the game. Two-for-one admission will be offered as the Lady Rebels take on league rival New Mexico on Feb. 27. The UNLV vs. Air Force game presented by KTUD on March 1 features "Military Appreciation Day" with $1 admission offered to all fans with military ID. All games tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
MWC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Senior All-America candidate Constance Jinks was selected twice this year as Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Dec. 2 and Feb. 10. Jinks, an all-conference first team selection in 2001-02, is now an eight-time recipient of the weekly award.
LEAGUE LEADERS
The Lady Rebels currently lead the Mountain West Conference in steals (198) and offensive rebounds (287). UNLV is fourth in the latest conference standings, while San Diego State is seventh.
