LAS VEGAS - UNLV rookie Henner Nehles has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

The freshman from Duisburg, Germany is the men's first honoree of the season after going 2-0 in singles play at last weekend's HEB College Tennis Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Nehles, who is 3-0 in his Rebel career, downed Michael Tarkowski of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and then upset 57th-ranked Christophe Bergues of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round.

His third and final match at the event was halted because of time constraints.
