Rebels Place Two

April 24, 2003

LAS VEGAS - Despite its winless league record in 2003, the UNLV men's tennis team saw two of its players earn All-Mountain West Conference honors Thursday.

Sophomore Aviram Salomon, who was last season's MWC Freshman of the Year, was named to the all-conference team after a 7-1 record at the No. 3 singles spot, including a 4-1 mark vs. league opponents. Freshman Henner Nehles, who did not join the program until January, was included after compiling a 6-5 overall record, mainly at the top position.

New Mexico and San Diego State led the way with three selections apiece. No UNLV player was named to the doubles team.

There was a tie for MWC Player of the Year as San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger shared the honor with Air Force freshman Shannon Buck, who also was tabbed the league's freshman of the year. The coach of the year honor went to BYU's Jim Osborne.
