PORTLAND, Ore. - The UNLV men's soccer team closed out play at the Nike Portland Invitational on Monday with a 2-0 loss to host Portland at Merlo Field.
Portland freshman Christopher Sanders' seven-yard header off sophomore Sean Babcock's short crossing pass in the ninth minute was the first score of the match.
Sophomore Alejandro Salazar's 16-yard strike in the 58th minute was the second and final goal of the match. Babcock recorded the assist for his second of the day.
Portland (1-1-0) had 13 shots to UNLV's 10 and both teams recorded four shots on goal apiece.
With the loss, UNLV fell to 0-2-0 on the season and returns home to host Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Mount St. Mary's will play Davidson beforehand at 5 p.m.
