WOODLAND, Calif. - UNLV senior midfielder Alex Hernandez was named MPSF Brine men's soccer Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Hernandez shared the weekly honor with Denver's Kyle Christensen, and he is the first Rebel to earn weekly honors in 2003.
Hernandez led UNLV to a two wins and first place at the Ameritas Classic in Omaha, Neb., this past weekend. In the Rebels' first game of the tournament, he scored once in a 2-0 upset of host Creighton on Sept. 12, which is ranked No. 25 in this week's Soccer Times poll. Against SW Missouri State, Hernandez added two goals, including the game winning in the second half in a 3-2 victory for UNLV on Sept. 14. For his performance over the weekend, Hernandez was named Tournament MVP. He currently leads the team with five goals and eleven points.
UNLV (2-4) will host the Rebel Tournament this weekend, featuring Bowling Green, Drake, and San Diego State. The Rebels will take on Drake on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m., and then Bowling Green on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Noon, with all games being played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
