Box Score

LAS VEGAS - In a physical game, Drake scored twice in the first half to spark them to 3-1 victory over UNLV in men's collegiate soccer on Friday night from Peter Johann Field. The Rebels, who had been riding a two-game win streak, fell to 2-5 on the season, while Drake remained undefeated at 5-0-1. The game was part of the Rebel Tournament, and in the day's first game, Bowling Green (2-1-2) and San Diego State (3-1-1) played to a 1-1 double overtime tie.

Drake struck first in the 14th minute, as Matt Bourne collected a pass from Matt Nickell and send a shot into the left side of the goal for a 1-0 lead. Corey Farabi was also credited with an assist on the score. The Bulldogs increased their lead to two at the 37:58 mark, as Chris Hamburger found himself alone outside the top of the box, and sent a blast into the top of the net above Rebel goalkeeper Peter Clitheroe. Nickell and Jess Richey both assisted on the second goal.

UNLV cut into the lead in the second half when Leandro Iocco took a pass from Taylor McCool and scored from 10 yards out to make it 2-1 at the 65:25 mark. However, Drake sealed the game just 2:35 later, when Matt Nickell scored his second goal of the season to put the Bulldogs up 3-1.

In the day's first game, Bowling Green's Dustin Snyder took a cross from Paul Seip and blasted a shot from 16 yards out for a 1-0 lead at the 26:67 mark. San Diego State tied the game just 43 seconds into the second half, on a unassisted goal by Dione Scott from the right side of the box to make the score 1-1. That was the final score of the day for both teams, and it would end in a 1-1 tie after going through two overtimes.

The Rebel Tournament resumes on Sunday, as UNLV faces Bowling Green at Noon, and San Diego State taking on Drake at 2 p.m., with both games being played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
