LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team played No. 7 Tennessee tough, but the Lady Vols were too much as they recorded a 5-2 victory on Sunday at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Tied at 2-2, Tennessee's Carie Swibas was issued a red card at 61:37 and was expelled. UNLV played with a one-woman advantage for the remainder of the match.
Tennessee, however, scored three times in the final 17 minutes to pull away.
Nickie Olson and Annii Magliulo each scored goals for the Rebels. Magliulo now leads the team with four goals on the season. Magliulo and Blynnda Bascones each had one assist.
Five different Tennessee players scored goals.
Tennessee (3-1) outshot UNLV 15-11 for the match and had 13 shots on goal, while the Rebels had seven.
UNLV (3-2) will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 12, as it hosts Virginia Commonwealth at Peter Johann Memorial Field at 7:30 p.m. Pepperdine and Auburn will play beforehand at 5 p.m.
