Rebels In Third-Place Tie At Tucker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The sixth-ranked UNLV men's golf team shot an opening round of 3-over-par 291 and followed that up later in the day with a second-round 2-under 286 to finish the first day of play at the William H. Tucker Invitational Friday in a tie for third place. The two-day tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,354-yard Championship Course at the University of New Mexico.

Arizona holds the team lead at 13-under (279-284--563), followed by New Mexico at 7-under (286-283--569). UNLV (291-286--577) is tied with Nevada, Reno (290-287--577) for third at 1-over.

Arizona's Henry Liaw is the leading individual at 9-under (67-68--135) and leads New Mexico's Spencer Levin (71-65--136) by one shot. Ryan Moore led the way for UNLV through the first two rounds of play by shooting 4-under (71-69--140) and sits in a tie for fifth place. Fellow Rebel Andres Gonzales is also in the mix at 2-under (68-74--142) and is tied for eighth.

The other Rebel competitors are: Jarred Texter (T24; 75-71--146), Travis Whisman (T45; 77-72--149), Casey Fowles (T77; 77-76--153) and Troy Denton (97; 79-80--159), who is competing as an individual.

Saturday's final round of 18 holes is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. MDT.
